Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation (SEPCO) recently unveiled their first Ultrabook, the Series 5 ULTRA. The launch which was held at Privé Luxury Club in the Fort Strip was led by Samsung business unit Director for IT Eric Sulit, Samsung business adviser for IT, James Kwon together with and Intel marketing manager Randy Kanapi.

The Samsung Series 5 Ultra is available in 13” and 14”.  The 14” version pushes the envelope of computing performance with an Intel® Core™ i7-2637M processor, 6GB memory, 1TB of Hard with 16GB SSD ExpressCache™ system.  The powerful processor works with the latest AMD Radeon™ HD 7550M graphics card. The result is a graphics performance that is 2.2 xs faster than the competitors.  The Series 5 ULTRA is able to do a blazing fast cold boot in just 20 seconds.  It will wake from sleep in 2 seconds.  Web browsing is twice as fast as the previous generation notebook PCs.  It is currently the only utlrabook with an integrated Optical Disc Drive.  In terms of connectivity, the 14” model offers full-size HDMI, VGA, two USB 3.0, one USB 2.0, 4-in-1 multi SD card slot, Ethernet and webcam. All of this comes in an ULTRA Light package of 1.84kg and a thickness of 20.9mm.
For even better mobility, the Series 5 ULTRA 13” is just 14~17.6mm thin and 1.38kg light. The Intel® Core™ i5 processor, 4GB memory, 500GB storage and 16GB SSD ExpressCache™ ensures that performance is not compromised. To offer maximum connection to other devices, the 13 inch model also carries full-size HDMI and a VGA dongle to connect to new TVs and legacy projectors.  Data connectivity is enhanced with a USB 3.0, two USB 2.0 ports, 4-in-1 multi SD card slot, Ethernet and webcam.

Both models carry Samsung’s superior LCD technology with 300nit HD LED SuperBright screen, Image Enhancer technology and anti-reflective screen, enabling consumers an ultra viewing experience even in bright sunlight.

The performance has been further enhanced by the extended battery life. The Samsung Series 5 ULTRA delivers up to 6.4 hours of battery life on a single charge, to make sure users enjoy the ultra features throughout the day. The Samsung Battery Life Plus is a true anti-aging battery technology which keeps 80 percent of the cell’s original capacity in a life cycle lasting up to 1,500 charging cycles or three years. This ensures that the battery can last up to five times longer than other notebooks.

During the event, guests were encouraged to write down their answers to the question, “How do you make yourself ULTRA?” and stick it on the opportunity wall. Dee Jae Pa’este’s live graphic exhibition using the Series 5 also kept the guests entertained throughout the night.

During the launch, Samsung also introduced its ULTRA Icons who are achievers and entrepreneurs that embody self-empowerment. These individuals share the same attributes to the Series 5; by grabbing all opportunities and being the best that you can be. The ULTRA Icons: Juliet Herrera of Serenitea, Alfie Sy of Cash Cash Pinoy and Eugenio Gonzalez of Quick Delivery were each awarded with a Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook in recognition for their revolutionary ideas in the Philippine business.

 “With the Samsung and Intel partnership we can jumpstart the adoption of Ultrabooks™. Our findings strongly indicate that consumers demand more than just thin and light devices; they also want higher levels of performance, bigger storage and longer battery life. DZMM is mounting the second annual “DZMM Takbo Para sa Karunungan,” a fun run that will benefit scholars from Sendong-hit Cagayan de Oro and Iligan, on March 11, 6 a.m. at the Quirino Grandstand.

Interested participants may opt to join in the 3 km, 5 km, 10 km and 21 km race categories.

Continuing last year’s advocacy for education, the event will be for the benefit of 25 students from Cagayan de Oro and 25 more from Iligan who were robbed of their chance to study when Sendong devastated their cities. It will also raise funds for the continued scholarship of the 25 Ondoy victims who were chosen as beneficiaries of last year’s run.

DZMM started organizing such an event in 1999, when it launched the “DZMM Takbo Para sa Kalikasan”. The run, which was annually held until 2010, was in support of several campaigns for the environment such as the continued rehabilitation of the La Mesa watershed and the Pasig Rehabilitation Project through ABS-CBN Foundation's “Bantay Kalikasan”.

Registration fees for this year’s “DZMM Takbo Para sa Karunungan” are at Php 300, Php 350, Php 400 and Php 500.

The event will prove to be enjoyable because apart from contributing to a good cause, the participants will also have a great time watching a set of performances. Moreover, plaques will be awarded to government agencies and non-government organizations with largest contingents, while cash prizes and trophies will be given to the top winners of the 3 km, 5km, 10km, and 21 km races.

On February 9, 2012 at Tokyo, Japan, UNIQLO announces that it will open its first retail location in the Philippines, the UNIQLO Mall of Asia Store, in June 2012 in Metro Manila. The Drama-Love Story In The Myth Makes All The Difference!

The plot? The Story? The Cast? The director? Or should we say all of the above?

Corazon Ang Unang Aswang” has all that.  A good plot, affecting story, effective cast, competent director.  Yes, the newest movie from Skylight Films and Reality Entertainment’s “Corazon Ang Unang Aswang” just could be it, the most exciting drama-love story horror movie of the year!

Corazon Ang Unang Aswang” is top-billed by popular youn actress Erich Gonzales together with the hottest leading mand of the hour, Derek Ramsay.  Erich and Derek play a childless husband and wife whose love for each other and spiritual and faith is put to test when tragedy strikes their first-born.  “Nung sinabi sa ’kin ‘yung story nagulat ako!  Kung baga, first time ko makkagawa ng project na out of the box!  Na hindi yung normal lang or usual na horror movei!”  Erich shares excitedly.  “I play Corazon.  Isa s’yang misteryosang babae.  Tahimik, very spiritual.  Simple lang. Mapuso at matindi magmahal.  Lahat kaya n’yang isakripisyo para sa mga taong mahal n’ya.” She shares and adds, “Kuwento ito ng dalawang taong sinubok ‘yung pagmamamhalan nila and na-test din ‘yung faith nila, ‘yung love, ‘yung commitment nila sa isa’t-isa.  ‘Yun for better or worse, mamahalin nila ang isa’t-isa no matter what. Unconditinal and unfailing love.  ‘Yun ang isa sa nandito sa movie na ‘to.  Makikita mo din ditto na life is a choice.  Meron kang choice na mapabuti or mapasama.  Kung saang landas mo gusting mapunta.” She closes.

Derek on the other hand has this to say, “Eversince I accepted the role, lagi ko ng sinasabi na this is my favorite project! Sobrang na-enjoy ko yung experience sa pag-shoot ng pelikulang ‘to. I look forward to shootings talaga.” He furthers, “This is very different kasi 50-50 s’ya! Most horror stories puro straight horror hanggang back story.  Ito, it’s a horror story pero ang gand ng love story dito! It really shos what true love is all about.  ‘Yun ang difference n’ya!” Derek is likewise very proud of his leading lady Erich, “She is one of the most talented young stars now!  She can really act very very well! Very professional!  Very versatile!” he closes.

First-time movie director and noted former Production Designer Richard Somes helms “Corazon…” he explains,  “I wrote this story as the origin and the legend kun’ pa’no nagsimula ang aswang.  But I’ve created my own legend!  Ginawa ko syang parang sarili kong myth!  It’s a story about undying love.  ‘Yun ang theme.”. Direk Richard really has the pulse and eye for an affecting drama-love story horror movie and handpicking an effective lead cast was equally easy.  “Erich is so beautiful on screen..” having worked with her in the hit teleserye “Maria La Del Barrio”, “…ang aura n’ya Filipina and medyo may pagka-enigmatic! Raw din s’ya, meaning ang emotion realistic lahat hindi staged, hindi planado.  Grabe din ang pagka-vulnerable n’ya at the same time yun strength n’ya as an actress!”  he proudly says of Erich.  “With Dereke naman, yun aura malakas!  Kung ikaw ang babae iisipin mo agad pwede ka nyang protektahan.

Again ang acting n’ya is super raw and napaka-intelihenteng tao so capture n’ya agad yung essence ng role n’ya!” he adds.

A good plot, an affecting story, effective cast, competent director, “Corazon Ang Unang Aswang” is one drama-love story horror movie that we should all really look forward to.  The love, the story, the myth, that is “Corazon Ang Unang Aswang”.

ABS-CBN execs & industry experts talk about media convergence for social responsibility

ABS-CBN chairman and CEO Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III will open this year’s Pinoy Media Congress (PMC) that brings together top-caliber ABS-CBN executives, industry experts, and almost 1,000 students and academicians of mass communications and journalism from all over the country in a two-day summit on Thursday (March 1) and Friday (March 2) at the Blessed Antonio Varona Gymnasium, Colegio De San Juan De Letran.

Now on its 7th year, ABS-CBN's Pinoy Media Congress will be engaging the future media practitioners in discussion of current issues and case studies on media and communications, specifically on the convergence of media for social responsibility.
